Posted by YenHeng-Han on
Thinking about customizing your items with laser engraving? Here’s what to keep in mind:
1️ Materials
Wood / MDF / Bamboo: Almost all types can be engraved.
Genuine leather / Nubuck / Suede: Engravable, but results may vary depending on leather type, color, and surface texture.
Metal / Plastic: Some types require special handling or coatings.
Glass / Ceramic: Engravable, but take care with cracks and size limitations.
2️ Size & Curvature Limitations
Large areas or highly curved surfaces may cause:
Uneven focus or blurred edges
Inconsistent engraving depth
Uneven color contrast
Recommended approach:
Use as flat a surface as possible
Test on a small area first
Inspect the actual item if needed
3️ Colour & Appearance
Leather and wood may show light and dark variations after engraving.
Nubuck / Suede may have slight darkening or uneven tone.
Glass / Plastic / Metal results depend on surface coating or finish.
4️ Design & Detail Limitations
Very fine lines or very small text may not engrave clearly.
Complex designs require vector files (.ai / .svg / .dxf).
Large designs may need segmenting or repositioning to maintain focus and quality.
5️ Assessment & Delivery
Physical inspection is recommended to confirm flatness and surface condition.
Initial size suggestions can be provided, but final quote and feasibility depend on the actual item.
